In the era of electrification and intelligence, Chinese automotive brands have achieved a “lane-changing overtake.” Today, Chinese cars have realized a comprehensive leap forward in product strength, sales volume, and brand reputation. Recently, the China Passenger Car Association released the retail sales data for May, and we have compiled the list of the top 20 best-selling Chinese SUVs.

The results show that 14 Chinese SUVs exceeded 10,000 units in sales in May. There are many hot-selling models, and the rankings have shifted significantly, with several new energy vehicle models surging to the forefront. Let’s take a look at the “frontline warriors” on this list.

The first-ranked model is the Leapmotor A10, with a May retail sales volume of 22,306 units. Honestly, this Chinese SUV is the “dark horse” of the list, charging directly to the NO. 1 position. Its two major characteristics are its accessible price and class-leading configuration.

Li Auto i6 ranks second, with 18,856 units sold in May. This model is in the highly competitive family SUV segment. Many competing models promote the slogan of “building cars for modern families,” but interestingly, many families are willing to pay for the Li Auto i6.

BYD Sea Lion 06 ranks third, with 18,856 units sold in May. As a mid-sized SUV, it is very thoughtful in terms of configuration—for example, it features a refrigerator, TV, and large sofa. Its energy consumption and quality control are also very reliable. Given the price point and various factors, many consumers are choosing the Sea Lion 06.

AITO M6 ranks fourth, with 18,148 units sold in May. This SUV also has strong momentum and remains at the top of the list, though whether it can maintain this heat remains to be seen. Titan 7 ranks fifth, with 17,510 units sold in May. This model has taken a differentiated route, breaking the stereotype of traditional “boxy” SUVs by integrating smart technology and comfort, defining products through usage scenarios.

BYD Yuan UP ranks sixth, with 17,043 units sold in May. With solid inner quality and a low entry price, it is perfect as an “urban commuting partner.” Changan Qiyuan Q05 ranks seventh, with 15,954 units sold in May. Its “over-the-top” product strength is the core reason why this model quickly entered the “mainstream circle.”

BYD Song Pro NEV ranks eighth, with 15,497 units sold in May; it is an economical and practical Chinese SUV. Geely Boyue L ranks ninth, with 13,395 units sold; Binrui ranks tenth, with 12,841 units sold. Both of these SUVs are from Geely, and their sales performance is very stable.

NIO ES8 ranks eleventh, with 11,472 units sold in May, winning over many traditional luxury car users. Now, many consumers are choosing more advanced travel experiences. Geely Xingyue L ranks twelfth, with 11,099 units sold. The secret to this model maintaining sales over 10,000 is its addition of smart and comfort equipment, offering an experience comparable to its new energy rivals in the same class.

Deepal S05 ranks thirteenth, with 10,594 units sold in May. Once its product strength became down-to-earth, the rise in sales became a natural result. Changan CS75 PLUS ranks fourteenth, with 10,103 units sold in May, known for being reliable and trustworthy.

BYD Song Ultra ranks fifteenth, with 9,961 units sold in May; among its sales, the pure electric version is selling better. GAC AION i60 ranks sixteenth, with 9,471 units sold in May. With the pricing of a “national SUV” and generous product strength, it has been recognized by many consumers.

In addition, other models entering the top 20 list include the AITO M7, Zeekr 9X, Xiaomi YU7, and Haval Big Dog. These Chinese SUV models all achieved retail sales of over 7,800 units in May, showing strong market performance.

Viewpoint: Looking at this sales list, it is clear that the landscape of this segment is not yet stable. There are always “dark horses” emerging, and many former “ace” models have encountered “Waterloo” in sales.
